A tragic incident occurred as a crew member of the Regal Princess cruise ship fell overboard near Cancun. The cruise ship had departed from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades for a week-long voyage on Saturday. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, went missing around 6 am on Monday off the coast of Mexico.
Following the alert from Princess Cruises, a search and rescue operation was initiated. Initially reported as a crew member missing, it was later confirmed that the person had passed away. Passengers onboard were informed of the situation while the ship was en route to Cozumel, a Mexican island.
Passenger David Jimenez mentioned that the ship immediately commenced search efforts, aided by another cruise ship and vessels from Mexican maritime authorities. Despite extensive searching for over eight hours, the crew member’s unfortunate demise was confirmed.
Passengers were kept updated with hourly reports during the search, and counseling services were made available for those in need. Princess Cruises extended condolences to the crew member’s family and friends, offering grief support services to affected guests and crew members.
The Regal Princess has now resumed its journey, with its next destination scheduled for Belize. Princess Cruises has been contacted for further comments regarding the incident.
