Eight children who tragically lost their lives in Louisiana have now been identified. In the early hours of the morning, Shamar Elkins, a 31-year-old army veteran, allegedly carried out the devastating attacks at three different locations in Shreveport, as confirmed by authorities.

According to Shreveport Police Department Corporal Chris Bordelon, the extensive crime scene spanned across three areas in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. Elkins reportedly engaged in a carjacking before being pursued by patrol officers, resulting in a fatal police confrontation.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office disclosed the names of the seven child siblings and a cousin who were victims of the shooting incident on Sunday. The victims, aged between 3 and 11 years old, were identified by their mothers as three boys and five girls.

The children were named as Jayla Elkins (3), Shayla Elkins (5), Kayla Pugh (6), Layla Pugh (7), Markaydon Pugh (10), Sariahh Snow (11), Khedarrion Snow (6), and Braylon Snow (5). Autopsies have been scheduled for the deceased.

Additionally, it was revealed that seven children were found deceased inside one of the houses, while another child was tragically discovered on the roof, presumably attempting to escape. The identity of the child found on the roof remains unclear at this point.

State Representative Tammy Phelps mentioned that some children attempted to flee through the back door during the incident, expressing deep sympathy for the responders and law enforcement handling the tragic situation.

Two women who were injured in the incident are reported to be in critical condition, as per official statements. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and US House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed their grief and commended the swift response of law enforcement in separate statements.

The motive behind the violent act remains unclear, with authorities indicating that the incident appears to be a domestic matter. This tragic event marks the deadliest mass shooting in the United States since January 2024, when eight individuals were killed in a Chicago suburb, as reported by data sources.

This updated information serves as a reflection of the heartbreaking events that unfolded in Shreveport, Louisiana.
