A woman, aged 41, tragically passed away following a cliff fall at a beach in the UK earlier this month, as revealed during an inquest. Rachel Anne Gwilliam was at Pentreath Beach on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall on July 2 when the incident occurred. Emergency services responded to the scene around 12:30pm.
The South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWASFT) spokesperson mentioned that the individual was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Multiple emergency response units, including a land ambulance, two air ambulances, and an operations officer, were dispatched to the location to transport the patient to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance.
Additionally, HM Coastguard confirmed the presence of crews from Mullion and Porthoustock, an RNLI lifeboat from Lizard, and a search and rescue helicopter from Newquay at the scene, as reported by Cornwall Live. Despite being admitted to Derriford Hospital for treatment, Rachel’s health did not improve, and she succumbed to her injuries on July 21, with the cause of death attributed to a traumatic brain injury from the fall.
The coroner initiated an inquiry into her death. During a brief public hearing, Senior Devon coroner Philip Spinney disclosed that Rachel Gwilliam hailed from Reading, Berkshire, and resided in Billingshurst. She was married and employed as an accountant. The inquest was adjourned by Mr Spinney, with a comprehensive hearing scheduled for a later date.
