A visitor in China faced a challenging situation when she became trapped in a crevice halfway down a cliff for five hours. Ren Mou found herself stuck in the crevice at Jiaozi Cliff in Shanxi Province after falling 180ft down the cliff. She had been watching the sunrise at the cliff site when she slipped near the edge due to wet conditions and poor visibility, leading to her fall over the 330ft-high ledge.

Fortunately, a man near the cliff heard her cries for help and alerted the authorities on July 2. Drones were utilized, including infrared imaging, to locate her exact position. Rescue teams had to secure ropes to nearby trees and abseil down to reach her as there were no suitable anchor points on the cliff.

After enduring five hours in the crevice, Ren was successfully rescued. She was disoriented, physically drained, and had suffered several non-life-threatening injuries. Currently, Ren is under medical care in the hospital. The Captain of the Shanxi Blue Sky Rescue Team mentioned that this was the first time in his 16 years of service encountering such a rescue scenario.

Visitors have been advised to avoid staying near cliff edges at night and slippery areas to prevent accidents. In a separate incident, another tourist fell 130ft off a cliff at Huaying Mountain in Guang’an, China, after attempting to take a selfie.
