A tragic incident occurred at a daycare center in São Paulo, Brazil, where a one-year-old boy, Abdoulaye Dieng, lost his life after his head became stuck behind a mirror. The child was playing in the daycare’s playroom when his head got trapped between a metal safety bar and the mirror, leading to asphyxiation.

It was reported that Abdoulaye struggled for about six minutes before staff returned and noticed the situation. They immediately removed him and sought help from the military police. Despite their efforts, Abdoulaye was pronounced dead at the Mooca Emergency Care Unit after being rushed there by the staff.

The boy’s father, Ibrahima Dieng, had dropped him off at the daycare just two hours before the tragic incident. The family was initially informed that Abdoulaye had fallen ill and was being taken to the hospital, leading them to believe he was receiving medical attention.

Allegations surfaced that the children at the daycare were left unsupervised while the staff attended the director’s birthday celebration. As a result, the incident is under investigation, with potential manslaughter charges being considered.

Five daycare employees, including the director, a coordinator, a teacher, a pedagogue, and another staff member, were questioned by the Civil Police regarding the incident. The Municipal Department of Education stated that appropriate actions would be taken if irregularities were confirmed, including possible disqualification of the partner organization responsible for the daycare unit.

Abdoulaye’s funeral took place on July 24, where his father expressed deep sadness over the loss, mentioning the difficulty his wife would face in coping with the tragedy. The family is devastated by the loss of their young child, and the community mourns the untimely death of Abdoulaye.
