The mother of a prominent TikTok personality who is facing the possibility of execution by firing squad in Dubai has shared the family’s anguish in a recent statement.
Brooke George’s mother, Thereza, is urgently seeking to save her 23-year-old daughter, who is accused of fatally stabbing fellow Brit Bill Treeby, 26, at an apartment in the UAE following their online meeting on Facebook. George, a former John Lewis employee with a million online followers, traveled to Dubai to meet Treeby.
Expressing her distress, Thereza stated, “This has been an overwhelming and heartbreaking experience for our family. Brooke is a compassionate and driven young woman who has always embraced life with vigor, believing in the abundance of opportunities the world offers. Her resilient and kind-hearted nature is well-known to those close to her.”
Thereza has initiated a JustGiving campaign aiming to raise £75,000 for legal and travel expenses to support Brooke during her legal battle in Dubai. She emphasized, “As a family, we are reaching out for any form of assistance, big or small, to help us navigate the challenges ahead. Your support, generosity, and prayers are invaluable to us.”
Advocacy group Detained in Dubai, representing Brooke’s family, contends that she acted in self-defense after enduring repeated assaults from Treeby. It has been disclosed that Treeby was facing drug-related charges and had a history of violence against women.
Treeby, whose father was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident following a property dispute, had a criminal record and was involved in drug trafficking activities. George, hailing from Gravesend, Kent, is currently detained at the notorious Bur Dubai police station.
Following her arrest, George alleged mistreatment by authorities, including being denied legal representation and being forced to strip in front of male officers, describing the experience as deeply distressing.
Detained in Dubai CEO Radha Stirling expressed profound concern for Brooke’s situation, highlighting the lack of adequate legal and psychological support for her given the serious charges she faces. Stirling also raised awareness of cases involving women being exploited in Dubai under false pretenses.
The UK Foreign Office has confirmed they are in contact with the British woman detained in the UAE.
