Three women were found drowned off Brighton seafront after attending a David Attenborough-themed student night. The individuals, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, were discovered following reports of a person in the water around 5.45 am on Wednesday.
Authorities are probing reports that the women may have been partying at Quarters, a popular bar in the area. A spokesperson for Quarters acknowledged the incident and stated cooperation with the ongoing police investigation.
According to a witness from a nearby shop, police were interviewing individuals from the club, and personal belongings of the women, such as handbags and a coat, were found on the beach. The witness described a chaotic scene with students overflowing onto the beach during the student event called CU Next Tuesday.
The tragic discovery of the bodies occurred on the beaches near Black Rock Beach and Brighton Pier, with all three women found fully clothed. Brighton & Hove City Council expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the families and acknowledging the efforts of emergency services.
Rescue operations involving coastguard teams, RNLI lifeboats, and emergency response units were mobilized to save the women, who, despite resuscitation efforts, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Sussex Police are working to formally identify the victims and gather evidence from CCTV footage in the area to piece together the events leading to the tragedy.
