Four teenagers have been accused in connection with a severe rape case involving a woman who was reportedly sexually assaulted at a residence in Weston-Super-Mare. The group, comprising individuals aged 19, 18, and two 17-year-olds, were apprehended and charged following a specialized investigation by Avon and Somerset Police into a significant sexual offense.
Allegedly, the woman was threatened and raped at a property on June 21, where she was purportedly held against her will during the incident. Tommy Campbell, 19, from Weston-Super-Mare, faces charges including six counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of assault causing bodily harm. Additionally, Rio Welling, 18, from Weston-Super-Mare, has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of false imprisonment.
Due to legal constraints related to their age, the identities of the two 17-year-olds have not been disclosed. One of them has been charged with three counts of rape, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of assault causing bodily harm, while the other 17-year-old faces charges of one count of rape and one count of assault causing bodily harm.
All four individuals have been detained in custody and are set to appear at Taunton Magistrates’ Court later today. Detective Inspector Natalie Thatcher emphasized the gravity of the investigation, highlighting the support provided to the victim by specialized officers. She also acknowledged the community’s concerns regarding the arrests and expressed gratitude for their cooperation during the inquiry process.
