Authorities have discovered a body in the search for a teenager who went missing while swimming in a section of open water in Cheshire. A specialized team of divers and a helicopter crew assisted in retrieving the body of the 17-year-old, who was last observed swimming in Pickmere Lake in Northwich on Tuesday.

Although formal identification is pending, law enforcement officers believe the body belongs to the missing teenager. Chief Inspector Jamie Lewis expressed condolences, highlighting the tragic loss of a young life and extending sympathies to the boy’s family, friends, and acquaintances during this challenging period.

Inspector Lewis emphasized the dangers of swimming in open water, particularly evident over the recent bank holiday weekend. Despite the allure of cooling off in the warm weather, individuals are cautioned about the potentially fatal consequences associated with open water activities. While encouraging enjoyment near water bodies, caution was advised regarding hidden risks like strong currents, submerged hazards, and mud banks that could pose threats to swimmers.

Authorities clarified that the death is not considered suspicious. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service reported their involvement in responding to a person entering Pickmere Lake, deploying rescue resources to aid in the search for the missing individual in collaboration with partner emergency services.

Regrettably, this incident marks the sixth teenage drowning in bodies of water this week amid an unprecedented heatwave.
