An 18-year-old teenager named Alfie Moses was critically injured in a quad bike accident in Greece. He sustained 12 fractured vertebrae, 11 broken ribs, a punctured lung, a ruptured spleen, a brain bleed, and a broken shoulder. The incident occurred in Zante while Alfie was on a holiday with friends. He was riding at approximately 40mph when he crashed after hitting a raised edge on the road, resulting in him being thrown from the quad bike.

Alfie was initially taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to Mediterraneo Hospital in Athens for further treatment due to severe internal injuries. His mother, Kayley Posnett, who flew to Greece immediately, described the distressing experience of seeing her son in excruciating pain and barely able to communicate due to the seriousness of his condition.

Doctors diagnosed him with bruising to his spinal cord caused by damaged vertebrae, necessitating spinal surgery once his condition stabilizes. Alfie is currently in intensive care and receiving treatment for lung contusions to prevent infection. Despite the gravity of his injuries, he has shown signs of improvement and has started speaking again.

Kayley expressed gratitude towards the hospital staff for their prompt and expert care, mentioning that Alfie is regarded as a positive and cooperative patient. Doctors are optimistic about his recovery, although it is expected to be long and complex. The family has already incurred significant medical expenses, and there are uncertainties regarding insurance coverage for quad bike accidents.

Kayley raised concerns about safety standards in quad bike rental businesses abroad, highlighting the risks associated with inexperienced young tourists operating these vehicles. She emphasized the need for better regulation and awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Alfie remains under observation in intensive care as doctors prepare for his upcoming surgery. This incident follows the tragic death of another British tourist in a quad biking accident in Greece. For those interested in supporting Alfie and his family with medical costs, a fundraising page has been set up.
