A court has heard that a teacher, allegedly stabbed in the head by a student, experiences a daily fear of death from the terrifying incident. The accused, a 16-year-old whose identity remains protected, has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Vicki Williams at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire last February.
During the trial at Swansea Crown Court, it was revealed that the student, who was 15 at the time of the alleged attack, approached the teacher’s desk, asking for assistance with his work. The situation took a dark turn as he suddenly produced a large kitchen knife and struck Ms. Williams in the head.
Describing the harrowing experience, Ms. Williams testified that she immediately sought medical aid as she believed her life was in jeopardy. A violent struggle ensued as she tried to disarm the student before he fled from the school premises.
In a courtroom exchange, the defense attorney, Matthew Roberts KC, suggested that the teacher sustained her injuries during a scuffle while attempting to confiscate the knife from the student. However, Ms. Williams refuted this claim, insisting that the attack was unprovoked and she was in fear for her life.
The defense questioned why Ms. Williams did not lock herself in the classroom after the incident. She explained that in her panicked state, she was solely focused on seeking help due to the severity of her injuries.
The trial also heard testimonies from medical professionals who treated Ms. Williams at Withybush Hospital, confirming her injuries. The school’s safeguarding lead, Catherine Wilcox, shared her shock upon seeing the teacher’s condition post-incident, highlighting the severity of the attack.
