A childcare worker in Sydney faces 329 charges for allegedly abusing 136 children at various daycare centers. The accused carried out these offenses over a 16-year span, from 2009 to 2025.

Identified as Hamish Tait after his initial arrest in July last year, the suspect’s actions have left parents ‘shocked’ and ‘disgusted.’ Police obtained a court order on July 13 to disclose his identity in hopes of identifying additional victims.

Currently in custody, the 35-year-old is charged with offenses including producing child abuse material and filming private acts without consent. Authorities have contacted 121 affected families but are still working to identify 22 more victims.

Tait had affiliations with over 55 early years education facilities in Sydney, primarily in the city’s north-west, during the mentioned period. The alleged abuse took place at five locations, comprising four childcare centers and his own establishment, Wild Earthlings Glenorie.

As part of the investigation, police have launched a website listing the centers where Tait worked to assist affected families. Australian Federal Police (AFP) Acting Commander Luke Needham emphasized the severity of child sexual abuse when the perpetrator is someone entrusted with children’s care.

In an effort to identify more victims, the authorities have released images of distinctive clothing worn by Tait. These images are crucial in the meticulous victim identification process, which has generated over 300 calls to date.

The revelation of Tait’s identity and the list of education centers has triggered panic among parents. One mother expressed shock and disbelief upon learning the news, emphasizing the need for more information before succumbing to panic.

Kid Fitz Learning Centres, where Tait was employed, issued a statement expressing regret for the pain caused and detailing their inability to reach out to past families due to a non-publication order. The statement conveyed shock, sadness, and disgust, apologizing for the distress inflicted on the community.

The charges against Tait also involve aggravated use of minors for producing child abuse material and sexually touching young children. His association with illegal online activities led to the discovery of large amounts of child abuse material on electronic devices.
