For those with a strong love for sweets and a deep connection to the classic tale of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a new attraction might soon become a must-visit on your travel list.
Switzerland has long been a popular spot for chocolate enthusiasts, with Maison Cailler in Broc, Gruyère being a key highlight for many. This historic factory has been producing the renowned Cailler chocolate since the late 1800s, making it one of the oldest operational chocolate factories globally.
Currently, visitors can tour the factory, explore a museum showcasing the history of Cailler, and even participate in chocolate-making workshops to create their own treats like truffles, all while enjoying various tasting experiences.
Exciting plans are in motion to expand the existing 2,000 m2 attraction to an impressive 30,000m2, promising a remarkable sensory journey centered around cocoa exploration, set to take around four to six hours to fully experience.
With approximately 400,000 annual visitors already flocking to the site, Maison Cailler stands as one of the most visited museums in Switzerland, and projections suggest that the park’s expansion could double this number in its initial phase.
In addition to the park expansion, upcoming features include a cable car for convenient access from the parking area, a ‘flying theatre’ for panoramic views, and a large cocoa greenhouse for visitors to witness the chocolate cultivation process.
To complement the chocolate-themed experience, plans also include the construction of a hotel for overnight stays, with the initial phase expected to be operational by 2030.
Travel to Maison Cailler is accessible by train from Montreux, offering a themed journey tailored for chocolate enthusiasts, while convenient flight options from the UK to Geneva provide easy access to the region in just a 90-minute flight via carriers like easyJet, TUI, and British Airways.
Broc itself offers a charming setting for exploration, whether in the enchanting winter months with snow-covered Alps or the vibrant green landscapes of summer. Visitors can also venture to the nearby Château de Gruyères for a magical experience amidst its adorned stone walls and historic treasures.
A short distance away, La Maison du Gruyère provides an opportunity to witness the production of the region’s famed cheese, offering tours and tastings of the distinctive local product, including the sight of massive cheese wheels maturing to perfection.
