Keir Starmer and Donald Trump recently had a conversation regarding the Strait of Hormuz plan. According to a spokesperson from Downing Street, the discussion focused on the urgent need for a practical strategy to resume shipping activities swiftly through the Strait of Hormuz following the Middle East ceasefire.

Despite their call, Keir Starmer had earlier criticized Donald Trump’s language and denounced Israel for extensive attacks on Lebanon. Starmer expressed disapproval of Tel Aviv’s ongoing bombardment, calling it unjust as signs of strain appeared in the temporary halt to Israel’s bombing operations.

In a separate statement, the Downing Street spokesperson mentioned that the Prime Minister engaged in discussions with President Trump from Qatar, stressing the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Both leaders agreed on the necessity of promptly facilitating the movement of shipping and committed to further communication in the near future.

Earlier in the day, Keir Starmer condemned Trump’s strong language against Tehran and his calls for the destruction of Iranian civilization, emphasizing that such rhetoric does not align with British values and principles.

The fragile truce between the US and Iran seems to be faltering as Israeli airstrikes intensify in Beirut and Iran maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz, with the prospects of a lasting peace agreement remaining uncertain.

Tehran and Washington are posturing with confidence and claiming advancements while gearing up for negotiations on a permanent deal, expected to commence soon in Islamabad, with U.S. Vice President JD Vance leading the American delegation.

Wednesday witnessed the deadliest day in Lebanon since the conflict’s onset, with Israeli strikes causing over 300 casualties. A significant point of contention revolves around whether the ceasefire extends to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, with Iran issuing warnings of strong retaliation if attacks on its ally persist.

Anticipated talks between Israel and Lebanon are scheduled for the following week in Washington, as per a source familiar with the discussions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed his approval for direct negotiations, although the Lebanese government has yet to respond publicly. Netanyahu also emphasized the absence of a ceasefire in Lebanon and the continuation of Israeli operations against Hezbollah.
