Britain is preparing for a 36-hour period of snowfall this week, with temperatures dropping to 0 degrees Celsius despite it being May and recent warmth. Weather forecasters at WXCharts have announced the arrival of wintry conditions on Tuesday, bringing snow and freezing temperatures. The snow is expected to start at noon on Tuesday and continue until midnight on Thursday, beginning in the Grampians and moving towards west and east Scotland by evening.

By midnight, areas on the West Coast of Scotland and northern England could see significant snowfall, with Wednesday morning bringing snow to various regions including central Scotland, South-east Scotland, north England, and north Wales.

Throughout Wednesday, scattered showers are predicted across central and north Scotland, as well as North-west England. Rain is expected to cover most parts of the UK, with heavy downpours likely on Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will also drop significantly, with central Scotland potentially hitting 0 degrees Celsius, while other regions could experience temperatures ranging from 3 to 15 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office has indicated that rain will move southeastwards on Tuesday, followed by sunshine and showers on Wednesday and Thursday, with cooler temperatures and occasional frost. Looking ahead, the forecast mentions continuing cloud and rain heading southwards, clearing the UK by evening, with some showers in northern Scotland and eastern coasts of England.

For the period of May 15 to 24, changeable and unsettled weather conditions are expected, with periods of rain or showers for many areas. Temperatures are likely to be close to normal, with winds blowing from a northwesterly direction. Towards the end of May, more settled weather may prevail, with longer dry spells anticipated.

Moving into the end of May and early June, the Met Office forecasts more settled weather compared to earlier in the month, with occasional rain showers but also extended periods of dry weather. Temperatures are expected to recover to near-average levels, potentially becoming warm at times, while June may bring mixed conditions with rain, showers, and drier spells.
