A woman has admitted to feeling deep shame over her vindictive act of splashing black paint on her sister-in-law’s wedding dress during the ceremony. Antonia Eastwood, aged 49, caused a scene at Oakwood House Register Office in Maidstone, Kent, in May 2024, leading to her receiving a suspended prison sentence of 10 months.

The shocking incident marred Gemma Monk’s special day, but she displayed remarkable resilience by changing into another outfit and continuing with the ceremony alongside her husband, Kevin Monk. Antonia, speaking publicly for the first time since her sentencing, expressed remorse to the Daily Mail, stating that her actions were out of character and that the fear of imprisonment had been consuming her.

The conflict between Antonia and Gemma originated at a previous family wedding in 2023, escalating into a feud that resulted in Antonia and her husband not being invited to Gemma’s wedding. Living in Manchester, Antonia was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court for causing criminal damage to the venue, incurring repair costs amounting to at least £5,000.

Gemma, in her victim impact statement, described the lasting trauma caused by the paint attack, highlighting how the incident shattered her sense of self-worth and left her questioning her own actions. She emphasized that what should have been a joyous occasion turned into a painful memory that still haunts her and her family.

Recounting the distressing moment when the paint was thrown at her, Gemma recalled the chaos and damage inflicted not only on her dress but also on her bridesmaids. The prosecutor detailed the extent of the paint splatter on Gemma’s attire and person, underscoring the severity of the attack.
