Two young children, aged five, are among three individuals in critical condition after a serious accident on the A59 in Lancashire. The incident occurred near Gisburn, leading to a significant emergency response and the closure of the road for six hours.
A woman in her 60s and the two children sustained severe injuries and were swiftly transported to the hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Lancs Live reported that three air ambulances landed in a nearby field, accompanied by multiple emergency vehicles at the crash site.
The collision, involving a Skoda Karoq and a Volkswagen Golf R, took place close to the junction with Strawberry Fields around 4 pm on Thursday. The driver of the VW Golf, a man in his 20s, also suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized.
While no arrests have been made, the road has since reopened fully. Lancashire Police are seeking witnesses and any available footage or information related to the accident. Sgt Anthony Beckett of the Roads Policing Unit expressed concern for the injured parties and called for cooperation from the public in the investigation.
