A man who committed multiple violent and sexual offenses against a woman, including rape, physical assaults, and threats, has been sentenced to jail. Ross Fyles, a two-time convicted sex offender, carried out a series of heinous acts, such as raping the victim at knifepoint, brandishing a fake gun, and throwing scissors at her, leaving a blade lodged in her back.

During one incident, Fyles physically attacked the woman, threatened her with a knife, and left disturbing voicemails at her workplace, pretending to be Osama Bin Laden and threatening to bomb the building. He also sent abusive messages to the victim.

Fyles, with a history of criminal convictions including arson and sexual offenses involving a minor, was found guilty by a jury of multiple charges, including rape, assault causing bodily harm, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear, and stalking. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison with an additional three years on extended licence.

In court, the defense mentioned Fyles’s troubled childhood, alcohol misuse, and experiences of bullying, suggesting that these factors may have influenced his behavior. Despite this, the judge emphasized the severity of Fyles’s actions and the lasting impact on the victim, stating that he poses a significant risk of committing further violent or sexual offenses.

Fyles will have to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for release and has been issued a restraining order preventing contact with the victim. Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for life.
