A security guard, 43, has been rescued from a collapsed building in Venezuela after being trapped for eight days. The challenging rescue mission to free Hernan Alberto Gil Flores served as a symbol of hope following consecutive earthquakes on June 24 that devastated parts of the South American country.
Mr. Gil Flores was found in the ruins of the basement of the Galerias Playa Grande shopping center in La Guaira, near the earthquake epicenter. After days of effort, rescue teams successfully extracted him to safety amid cheers from international emergency workers.
