Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv early Thursday, killing three people and injuring 20, as reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The attack caused significant damage to buildings and disrupted power supply in parts of the Ukrainian capital.

Mayor Klitschko mentioned that a fire erupted in a nine-story residential building’s upper floors following the Russian assault. He also stated that individuals were trapped in various locations due to the strikes hitting apartments, non-residential structures, warehouses, and even a children’s hospital. Witnesses reported hearing over a dozen explosions, with another casualty reported in the vicinity of Kyiv, according to a local official.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which started with Russia’s invasion in February 2022, has led to daily exchanges of attacks. Despite diplomatic efforts involving the United States and Europe, a lasting ceasefire has yet to be achieved.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed that proposals to end the war were presented to U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner earlier in the month. While the negotiators have not visited Kyiv yet, Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, mentioned that Moscow is prepared to arrange a meeting promptly if specific proposals are received.

The situation remains tense as Ukraine recently conducted a drone strike on Russian targets, including Moscow. This significant attack showcased Ukraine’s increasing capability in long-range strikes, marking a notable development in the ongoing conflict.
