An inquiry has been initiated following a video capturing a Royal Mail employee launching a profanity-filled outburst at a young woman.

The incident occurred on an Edinburgh bus on Tuesday, June 30, where 22-year-old Jennifer Rain was verbally attacked by the uniformed man, leaving her feeling “terrified.”

According to reports from the Daily Record, Jennifer, a chef residing in the city, had misplaced her disabled bus pass and was allowed to board for free by a considerate Lothian Buses driver at Haymarket.

Recounting the incident, Jennifer expressed her distress, stating, “I was getting the bus from Haymarket back to my home. I couldn’t find my disability bus pass, I must have lost it. Thankfully, the bus driver was kind and let me on without it.”

As she proceeded onto the bus, a man at the front started shouting profanities at her, causing Jennifer to fear the situation would escalate, prompting her to record the incident on her phone.

The recorded footage captured the man continuously swearing at Jennifer and demanding that she cease recording, displaying aggressive behavior throughout the encounter.

Despite Jennifer’s attempts to de-escalate the situation, the man persisted in berating her, criticizing her for boarding without payment and making derogatory remarks towards her.

The tense exchange drew the attention of the bus driver, who intervened by warning the man to calm down, highlighting the disruptive nature of the confrontation.

Jennifer explained her predicament regarding the missing bus pass, but the man continued to chastise her, accusing her of taking advantage of the situation and demonstrating discriminatory behavior.

Feeling frightened and vulnerable, Jennifer described her ordeal as shocking and emphasized the need for serious action to be taken against individuals who pose threats to disabled individuals in public settings.

She noted the lack of intervention from fellow passengers during the incident, with support only coming after another woman reported the incident online. Both Police Scotland and the Royal Mail have launched investigations into the matter.

In response to the incident, a Royal Mail spokesperson condemned the behavior displayed in the video, asserting that it is unacceptable and does not align with the company’s standards, pledging full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Police Scotland confirmed receiving a report of the abusive behavior on the bus near Waverley in Edinburgh and stated that inquiries are ongoing to understand the complete circumstances of the incident.
