Police are investigating the death of a woman at a secluded cottage as a murder case, while the passing of a man at the same location is currently labeled as “unexplained.”

The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Stacy Mair and a 43-year-old male, were found by emergency responders at Corsliehill Road in Houston, Johnstone on July 27. Their discovery followed reports of a welfare concern.

Initially treated as unexplained, authorities from Police Scotland have now indicated suspicions of foul play in Stacy’s death. Further examinations are scheduled to determine the precise cause of demise.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland stated, “The tragic incident involving the death of Stacy Mair is now being treated as a homicide. Following a distress call at approximately 7:50 am on Monday, July 27, 2026, in the Corsliehill Road vicinity of Houston, emergency services located the bodies of the deceased individuals.”

“While Stacy’s demise is considered a murder post the post-mortem examination, the circumstances surrounding the 43-year-old man’s demise remain undisclosed until the completion of further investigations. The Major Investigation Team from Police Scotland, alongside local officers, is actively pursuing leads to establish a comprehensive understanding of the events.”

“At present, there is no indication of external involvement or public safety risk.”

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, leading the Major Investigation Team, expressed condolences to the affected families and emphasized the ongoing support provided during this challenging period.

Chief Inspector Iain Farmer acknowledged the distressing impact of the incident on families and the wider community, appreciating the collaborative assistance received to ensure thorough investigations and closure.

Individuals with relevant information or concerns are encouraged to contact Police Scotland via 101.

Visual documentation captured at the scene by the Record on Tuesday showcases a significant police presence in Houston, with officers conducting thorough searches in the vicinity. The property is situated on a primary road, with similar residences nearby.

Corsliehill Road, a secluded rural lane surrounded by farmland and sparse dwellings, witnessed substantial emergency service mobilization on the day of the incident, including the deployment of a police helicopter.

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed dispatching multiple response teams and ambulances to the scene following an early morning call. Special operations response teams, ambulances, and a critical care unit were deployed to the location in response to the emergency call.
