The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the interaction between law enforcement and a mother before she and her two daughters were tragically killed. Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, aged 42, Natalie, aged 15, and Nala, aged 5, were found deceased on July 6 with signs of “blunt force trauma” after concerns arose over their absence for several days. Nothabo’s husband and the children’s father, Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, a British citizen of Zimbabwean descent, has been accused of three counts of murder.

Ndodana, also known as Mark, was apprehended in Kensington, Johannesburg, South Africa, following his departure from the UK two days before the bodies were discovered in Great Denham, Beds. He is presently in custody in Johannesburg, with extradition proceedings initiated to return him to the UK.

It has been disclosed by Bedfordshire Police that they had prior dealings with Zandile, leading to their self-referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. The IOPC has confirmed an independent inquiry into the police officers’ interactions with Zandile Tshuma and her daughters before their demise in Bedfordshire.

A spokesperson for the IOPC stated, “Our investigation is in the early phases, and updates will be provided in due time.” Detective Inspector Lee Martin, the lead investigator, emphasized that ongoing legal proceedings prevent them from sharing further details at this moment. The South African Police Service highlighted that Tshuma’s arrest was facilitated through efficient operational coordination and intelligence-led policing.

According to Tshuma’s LinkedIn profile, he pursued studies in management information systems at Solusi University in Zimbabwe, followed by educational stints at the University of Plymouth and City St George’s, University of London. Zandile worked as an associate director specializing in financial crime investigations like money laundering and fraud.
