Police recently uncovered a large cannabis factory inside an abandoned chicken unit, where criminals cultivated drugs worth £500,000. The discovery, made near the village of Burbage in Wiltshire, revealed over 1,500 plants, making it one of the largest farms ever found in the area. Authorities estimated that the operation illegally consumed around £1.5 million worth of electricity from the national grid.

The cannabis farm, measuring 60m x 12m, was found by a member of the public on July 17th. Engineers are currently working to safely dismantle the electricity supply connected to the site. Wiltshire Police shared a video showcasing the extensive drug production facility, complete with living quarters and approximately 1,300 plants ready for cultivation and sale.

The living space within the barn featured bedding, a toilet, and a fully equipped kitchen with essential appliances like a stove, sink, and washing machine. Detective Sergeant Joe Shanklin described the setup as where the individuals involved lived and prepared their meals. The police noted that the cannabis factory had proper ventilation, electricity, and water supply, indicating a sophisticated operation.

Detective Sergeant Shanklin emphasized the scale of the operation, highlighting the challenges of safely dismantling it due to its remote location. Wiltshire Police are currently cataloging and removing both the equipment and plants from the site, with plans to transport and destroy the cannabis. While no arrests have been made yet, an investigation is underway.

Authorities emphasized the significance of community cooperation in combating illegal activities, urging the public to report any suspicious properties potentially linked to drug operations. Reporting can be done through multiple channels, including contacting the police directly or providing anonymous tips to Crimestoppers.
