Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform, is under scrutiny for his association with a convicted fraudster who reportedly refers to him as “daddy.” George Cottrell, also known as “Posh George,” is accused of using personal funds to cover office expenses, including software costs, since the 2024 general election without disclosing these donations as required by law.
Farage, already facing a parliamentary standards investigation, recently announced his resignation to contest a by-election in Clacton amid allegations of impropriety. The Liberal Democrats have urged the Parliamentary standards commissioner to look into reports that Cottrell provided Farage with various benefits, including security, staff, and accommodation.
Reform UK maintains that Cottrell, who served time in the US for wire fraud, is an unpaid volunteer and denies any financial assistance to Farage. Additionally, there are ongoing inquiries into donations made by Cottrell’s mother, raising concerns about potential violations of donation rules, including accepting funds from impermissible sources.
Labour has called for further investigations into allegations of lobbying by Farage and potential financial improprieties. The party highlighted the growing concerns surrounding Reform’s finances and emphasized the need for accountability.
Despite claims linking Farage and Cottrell, Reform has stated that Cottrell holds no official position within the party and is merely a volunteer member. The party has refrained from commenting on the recent accusations, and inquiries are ongoing.
