A fresh Banksy creation has attracted a large crowd in the heart of London. The piece is displayed on a pedestal at Waterloo Place, depicting a man in a suit walking toward the edge, his view obstructed by a fluttering flag. Banksy’s signature is etched on the back of the pedestal, although the artist has not officially acknowledged the artwork through any of his established platforms.

This unveiling follows an investigation that claimed to have revealed the purported true identity of Banksy as Robin Gunningham, who allegedly changed his name to David Jones. Reuters reported delving into information shared by Banksy and his associates, conducting interviews with insiders and experts, and revealing previously undisclosed US legal records and police documents in an attempt to expose the artist.

In response, Banksy’s longtime attorney, Mark Stephens, communicated to Reuters that Banksy disputes many details of the investigation. It was also alleged that Banksy requested Reuters to refrain from publishing the report, citing concerns about privacy infringement, disruption to his art, and potential risks to his safety.

Born in the early 1970s at Bristol Maternity Hospital, Banksy gained prominence in the 1990s by spray-painting stenciled designs across Bristol before expanding to other UK cities and worldwide locations. Now recognized as one of the most prominent street artists globally, his pieces have fetched millions at auctions, notably the notorious shredding incident of “Girl With A Balloon” at a Sotheby’s auction in 2018. The shredded artwork, renamed “Love is in the Bin,” later sold at another auction for a substantial sum.
