The mother of a victim of a stabbing incident in an antisemitic attack has provided an update on her son’s condition. The incident occurred in Golders Green, north-west London, where two men, aged 76 and 34, were stabbed. Police responded swiftly, and the victims received medical attention. Authorities later confirmed the attack as a terrorist act.
A 45-year-old British man, who came to the UK from Somalia as a child, has been arrested in connection with the incident. The suspect was apprehended by police after being seen carrying a blade in the street and subsequently shot with a stun gun.
The mother of Shloime Rand, the 34-year-old victim, expressed relief that her son is now in stable condition. She expressed shock at the occurrence of such violence in London, especially in a peaceful community. She recounted that Shloime was simply walking down the street when the attack took place. She added that she was able to visit him and is grateful that he remained conscious throughout the ordeal, hoping for his return home before Shabbat.
The police cordon around the area where the attack took place was lifted earlier today. Roads in the vicinity that were cordoned off following the stabbings have reopened, allowing normal traffic flow. Body-worn camera footage capturing the moment when the suspect was subdued by police has been released. The video shows the suspect, armed with a knife, advancing towards officers before being tasered and restrained.
During the arrest, officers could be heard instructing the suspect to drop the weapon. Subsequently, the suspect was detained, handcuffed, and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed that they have not received any complaints regarding the arrest process.
