A massive fire destroyed a recently renovated hotel in St Andrews, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area. Firefighters responded to the incident at St Michaels Inn near Leuchars around 10 pm on Tuesday, deploying nine firefighting units and four specialized resources. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries.
As of Wednesday morning, six regular fire units and three specialized vehicles continued efforts to extinguish the intense blaze, as reported by the Daily Record. Authorities advised local residents to keep their windows and doors shut for safety.
Fife Council posted on social media warning of major traffic disruptions in North East Fife towards Dundee due to the fire at St Michael’s Inn. The affected roads include A914 (Dairsie to St Michaels), A919 (Leuchars to St Michaels), B945 (Tayport to St Michaels), and C12 between A92 and A914, from Forgan Roundabout to St Michaels.
According to a spokesperson from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, fire crews are actively managing the commercial building fire at St. Michaels Inn in Leuchars, St Andrews. They urged people to avoid the area and use alternative routes, while residents in the vicinity were advised to secure their homes by closing windows and doors as a precautionary measure.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
