Greek authorities have reported the arrest of a man suspected of having ties to Hamas, following an attempted attack on a cruise ship. The 37-year-old Palestinian national was apprehended on the island of Crete and is accused of being associated with Hamas, having undergone training with the militant group abroad.
Law enforcement conducted searches at residences in Crete and Athens, seizing various electronic devices and bank cards. The suspect is scheduled to appear before a magistrate on Sunday for further proceedings.
This arrest is connected to the detention of four other Palestinian individuals in Cyprus on charges related to terrorism and involvement in a criminal organization. Two men were initially taken into custody on May 22, with authorities discovering materials potentially used for making explosives at their residences. Subsequently, two more individuals were detained on May 29 in connection with the same investigation.
