Four individuals implicated in a probe regarding explosives and firearms manufacturing in London, Ontario, are now facing 19 additional charges as per court documents submitted on Tuesday. The accused, Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, were initially charged in January. All four have ties to Western University, with the male trio having backgrounds in the engineering field.
The updated charges filed at the Ontario Court of Justice now amount to 31 separate counts, some of which are collective charges against all four suspects, while others are specific to individual defendants. The fresh charges encompass the possession of five distinct explosive materials, possession of stolen items, and unauthorized access to computer data related to firearm production.
The investigation, which commenced on Jan. 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University involving two individuals, led to the arrests of the accused. Police subsequently conducted a thorough search of the residence at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, as well as two additional properties in Orleans, Ottawa, and Gatineau.
Initially apprehended on multiple firearms charges, including handgun manufacturing and possession of a loaded restricted firearm, Tong, Wang, and Ji now face additional charges such as possession of firearm accessories, possession of another prohibited firearm, and mishandling firearms. Tong also faces charges related to incidents in other cities, including firearm storage violations and prohibited firearm manufacturing.
Moreover, Wang is accused of weapon manufacturing during a specific timeframe, and both Wang and Tong are charged with an October 2025 break-in at a Western building. The suspects are also charged with possessing explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), and others.
While Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji navigate through the legal process, Tong and Wang remain in custody, while Han was denied bail and Wang was granted bail under stringent conditions. Ji is out on bail without sureties. The accused face varying numbers of charges, with Tong facing the most at 28 counts, followed by Wang with 20, Han with 11, and Ji with 13 charges.
