London Marathon organizers are discussing the possibility of extending the event to span two days in 2027 in order to accommodate a larger number of participants. The iconic marathon, which has been a fixture in the capital since 1981, may undergo this change to meet the growing demand.

Traditionally held on a single day, the marathon is now considering spreading the event across a weekend to cater to the increasing number of entrants. A spokesperson for the London Marathon emphasized the event’s status as one of the world’s most popular marathons and highlighted the ongoing efforts to provide opportunities for more individuals to join while benefiting London.

While plans for the 2027 London Marathon extension are being discussed, no official approval has been granted yet. The immediate focus remains on delivering an exceptional experience for all participants in the upcoming 2026 TCS London Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 26.

Chief Executive Hugh Brasher echoed the sentiment of enabling more people to participate in the esteemed event and emphasized the collaborative efforts with partners and stakeholders to ensure its success. With just weeks remaining until the 2026 marathon, the aim is to amplify the marathon’s original mission of spreading joy and accomplishment in a challenging world.

The Mayor of London’s office expressed enthusiasm for the potential extension of the London Marathon to a two-day affair in the future, aligning with London’s reputation as a global sporting hub. The overwhelming interest in this year’s marathon was evident as over 1.1 million individuals applied through the public ballot, marking a significant increase from the previous year.

The event not only drew massive public interest but also raised a record-breaking £87.3 million, showcasing its continued success and impact. Furthermore, the previous year’s marathon set a Guinness World Record with 56,640 finishers, underscoring the event’s global significance.

In a separate development, England and Nike have unveiled the new home, away, and goalkeeper kits for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with free delivery available on all orders using the code “ENGFREEDEL.”
