Trump’s Iran Campaign Falls Short, Raises Concerns

President Trump’s campaign against Iran has not achieved its intended goals, such as halting Tehran’s nuclear weapons aspirations, facilitating acceptable regime change, or supporting protesters. Instead, the actions have led to enriched uranium remaining buried beneath Iran’s nuclear sites, the establishment of a more hardline regime in Iran, and potentially alienating the Iranian populace.

The initiative has temporarily opened up the previously unblocked Strait of Hormuz and significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities, although some argue that the impact on Israel has not been substantial enough. Iran’s missile capabilities, both ballistic and conventional, have not been completely eradicated, leaving the country with approximately half of its arsenal, including numerous drones.

President Trump’s touted “complete victory” amounts to a disorganized and unsatisfactory conclusion that raises more uncertainties than solutions. Israel, dissatisfied with Trump’s apparent retreat from the conflict due to unmet expectations, may prolong the hostilities.

Reports suggest that Israeli intelligence is determined to obstruct peace negotiations and persist in attacking Iran to achieve specific objectives, including thwarting Iran’s nuclear ambitions, dismantling the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, curtailing Tehran’s ballistic weapons program, and fostering a less aggressive government.

A proposed ten-point plan includes Iran’s demand for control over the Strait of Hormuz, the absence of an agreement on ballistic weapons, and no resolution regarding Iran’s support for proxy groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, the Yemeni Houthis, and Iraqi pro-Iranian militias.

Notably, the plan includes Iran’s insistence on the removal of US military presence from the Middle East, a set of impractical demands signaling US surrender. Iran may seek compensation for war damages by imposing taxes of over £1 million per vessel for safe passage.

Trump’s claim of a victorious outcome is refuted by the evident failure of the campaign, which has only weakened Iran’s military strength. The repercussions of this mismanaged conflict may require intervention from America’s NATO allies to secure the Strait of Hormuz, with the global implications of the war likely to be a subject of debate for years to come.
