A 20-year-old individual from Mitcham, identified as Shuja Gibraeel Mohsin, has been convicted of possessing and distributing terrorist materials, according to the Metropolitan Police. Mohsin’s guilty verdict came after a trial at the Old Bailey that lasted two weeks. The case unfolded when counter terrorism officers at Heathrow Airport stopped Mohsin upon his return from Pakistan in January 2024.
During a routine “schedule 7” stop, authorities confiscated Mohsin’s phone for further inspection. Subsequent examination of his phone and a USB stick revealed his involvement in extremist online activities associated with groups like the Taliban, Hamas, and Daesh.
Upon scrutiny, investigators discovered alarming content on Mohsin’s phone, including a bomb-making manual and Daesh execution videos that he had shared online. Mohsin was subsequently arrested in March 2024, and his computer was seized. Following a second arrest in July 2024, Mohsin refused to comment on the materials found on his devices.
After a thorough investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service pressed charges against Mohsin in April 2025. He was found guilty of possessing a document likely to aid terrorist activities, along with disseminating terrorist materials related to Daesh execution videos. Mohsin is set to be sentenced on 14 August.
Helen Flanagan, the Commander of Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London, expressed concern over the radicalization of young individuals like Mohsin, urging parents and guardians to monitor their children’s online activities. Flanagan emphasized the importance of seeking help if any concerning behaviors are observed, highlighting the severe consequences individuals face for engaging in terrorist-related online activities.
