A brutal killer who subjected a defenseless father and former DJ to a horrific ordeal of torment and mistreatment has been sentenced to life in prison. Ashley Crowder, 37, carried out a series of abuses against Graham Cox, 37, culminating in a fatal attack in Bolton in March 2024.
Following a trial in June where he was found guilty of murder, assault, and theft related to Mr. Cox, Crowder was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 25 years at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday.
Mr. Cox’s lifeless body was discovered at Crowder’s residence in Farnworth on March 4, 2024, revealing numerous injuries, both internal and external, with 14 of them attributed to a weapon, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The court was informed that Mr. Cox suffered from a series of cruel acts of abuse that ultimately led to his death, with strangulation being the final deadly act carried out by Crowder.
During the sentencing proceedings, Crowder displayed a lack of remorse and respect, refusing to engage with Mr. Cox’s family or participate in the legal process.
Judge Nicholas Clarke KC, who presided over the case, highlighted Crowder’s callous behavior and lack of compassion towards the victim’s family. Mr. Cox, a talented individual with a history in sports and music, had fallen on hard times due to health issues and addiction, making him vulnerable to exploitation.
In the months leading up to Mr. Cox’s tragic demise, he was held against his will at Crowder’s residence, where he was subjected to violence and financial exploitation. Despite seeking help at a local center, Mr. Cox’s pleas for assistance went unanswered until it was too late.
After the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Naismith of Greater Manchester Police condemned the heinous actions of Crowder, emphasizing the need to protect vulnerable individuals from such atrocities.
The sentencing of Crowder aims to provide a sense of justice for Mr. Cox’s family and sends a clear message that crimes against vulnerable individuals will not be tolerated in the region.
