John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a recent statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board members, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to help shape the organization’s future direction.
Tory’s official term commences on October 1, as per a news release published on Thursday. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who had held the position of chair since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in contributing to the film festival’s evolution.
Furthermore, TIFF announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Simultaneously, Asha Daniere is stepping down from the board after nine years of service. TIFF expressed its gratitude and recognition for Daniere’s significant contributions to the organization over the years.
