The World Sikh Organization of Canada reported a “violent incident” occurred at the Nanaksar Gurdwara temple in northeast Edmonton on Friday morning, resulting in injuries to two individuals. An intruder entered the Gurdwara early in the morning and assaulted people inside, according to the organization. The statement also mentioned that during the incident, there were reports of an attack on the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, a Sikh scripture.

Edmonton police stated in an advisory around 11 a.m. that they were investigating a stabbing inside the temple. Officers from the Northeast Branch Patrol responded to a stabbing report at the Nanaksar Sikh Temple located near 14 Street and Horsehill Rd at 5:08 a.m. Upon their arrival, they arrested an adult male suspect. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) treated two adult males at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, as confirmed by the police.

The Gurdwara has been closed to the public as the investigation continues, with law enforcement officers currently present at the scene. Further updates are expected to be provided during a news conference scheduled for later today.
