Around 100 firefighters are currently engaged in extinguishing a large fire that has erupted in the southeastern part of London. The incident is impacting a shop and storage unit situated on Rye Lane in Peckham, as confirmed by the London Fire Brigade (LFB). Visuals shared depict dense plumes of smoke ascending into the sky while fire crews work to contain the inferno.
Fifteen fire engines have been dispatched to the location, with two of the LFB’s specialized 32-meter turntable ladders utilized to combat the flames from an elevated position. Emergency calls began flooding in at 8:54 pm, with control officers registering more than 30 distress calls since then. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
In light of the situation, the LFB has issued a cautionary advisory urging individuals to steer clear of the affected area. Local residents have also been advised to secure their homes by keeping windows and doors shut due to the substantial presence of smoke in the vicinity.

The blaze is impacting a shop and a storage unit, with the assistance of two 32-meter turntable ladders from the brigade’s resources to address the situation effectively.
As investigations continue, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Reportedly, the fire is originating from Copeland Park, identified as “Peckham’s Creative Quarter”. An LFB spokesperson highlighted the ongoing efforts, stating, “Firefighters are actively responding to a fire incident on Rye Lane in Peckham. As a precautionary measure, local residents are advised to secure their premises with closed windows and doors due to the smoke concentration in the area.”
