A tragic incident unfolded as a hiker fell to his death from a cliff after posing for a photo at the summit in Marica, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The man, identified as Caio Arrabal, 44, lost his footing while descending from the rock formation known as Pedra do Macaco, plummeting approximately 492 feet.

Emergency services were alerted at 11:40 am, initiating a search operation that lasted around four hours due to the challenging terrain and limited access to the area where the hiker fell. Arrabal, who was leading a group of hikers for the first time, had no warning signs along the trail to indicate potential dangers.

Rescue efforts were complicated by the steep and densely forested location of the incident. According to rescue instructor Matheus Moura, accessing the site required climbing, using ropes, and navigating through rugged terrain. This unfortunate event marks the second tragedy in the Marica region within a fortnight.

Just days earlier, on June 14, another individual, Rosemary Garcia, 59, fell from a cliff at a zip-line park in Gruta do Spar. Despite wearing safety gear, including a helmet and gloves, Garcia lost her balance while applying insect repellent and fell approximately 98 feet. Despite attempts by a guide to prevent the fall, she tragically could not be saved.
