Multiple children have been hospitalized following the discovery of their living conditions described as “deplorable” in a house termed “pure evil” by law enforcement.
Four adults have been taken into custody on charges of felony child endangerment after the children were found at a residence in Hamden, Ohio, on June 30.
Authorities stated that all 16 children required immediate medical attention, with two of them airlifted to Level One trauma centers due to their injuries.
Acting on received information, the Ohio Bureau of Investigation and the local sheriff’s department conducted a search of the property leading to the findings.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson expressed shock at the conditions, stating they were beyond his previous experiences, especially for children.
During a press briefing, Wilson emphasized the unimaginable conditions in which the children were found to be living, describing it as unprecedented in his career as “pure evil.”
The children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old and composed of both boys and girls, were involved in the distressing situation.
Those arrested include Gary Siders Jr., Gary Siders Sr., Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders, who are yet to receive legal representation.
Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney William Archer disclosed that the four individuals face second-degree felony child endangerment charges due to the gravity of the physical harm alleged.
While the relationship among the children remains unconfirmed, authorities clarified that the case is not linked to human trafficking. The adults were identified as non-local and believed to be on a traveling path.
As investigations persist on the property, the suspects are scheduled for a court appearance today. Wilson assured that justice will prevail for the children involved.
