Ceasefire discussions in the Middle East hit a standstill on Friday as Hezbollah rejected US-mediated proposals, while Israel continued its attacks on Lebanon.

Israeli airstrikes today resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirming that the conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon will persist, and Israeli troops will not withdraw.

Residents in nine locations in southern Lebanon were instructed to evacuate by Israeli Defense Force soldiers stationed in the conflict zone.

Hezbollah insisted on the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory as a condition for any peace agreement, disregarding attempts to broker a deal between the two countries.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to maintain Israeli presence in Lebanon and pledged to dismantle Hezbollah installations, including a massive underground complex referred to as a ‘fortress.’

Netanyahu stated that the elimination of Hezbollah would prompt a reassessment of Israel’s actions, highlighting the implementation of security zones along the border as a strategic shift in their approach.

Israeli forces took control of a fortress threatening Metula, a town in northern Israel, describing the structure as unique and unprecedented in Lebanon or Gaza.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem dismissed a ceasefire proposal as a sham, declaring that Hezbollah would not relent until Israel completely vacated Lebanon.

The death toll from Israeli strikes in Lebanon has reached 3,526, with 10,733 individuals injured since early March, according to local health authorities, as Iran’s IRGC command insists on Israel’s withdrawal for regional peace.

Despite claims by US President Donald Trump, a lasting peace settlement in the region remains elusive, hinging on an agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

Efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, vital for global oil trade, faced setbacks following Trump’s statements, suggesting that a ceasefire with Iran was not necessary to secure Tehran’s uranium stockpile.

The US announced a ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, contingent on Hezbollah ceasing fire and withdrawing fighters from border areas in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah did not participate in the negotiations, leading to continued clashes between Hezbollah militants and Israeli troops, resulting in casualties on both sides.

The conflict between Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel has persisted since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, with both Hezbollah and Hamas receiving support from Iran.
