A freight train carrying hazardous materials has derailed close to a small town in the US, leading authorities to advise residents to find shelter. The incident occurred in Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, at approximately 2:20 pm on Tuesday, resulting in the dispatch of a hazmat team to the crash site.
Reports indicate that two train cars are transporting hazardous substances, with one containing a flammable isopropanol solution. Local sources state that a total of forty cars were involved in the derailment.
According to Bensalem Public Safety Director William McVey, there have been no reported injuries so far, although there is a possibility of hazardous materials being present on the train. The cause of the derailment remains unknown at this time.
Pennsylvania Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick announced on Facebook that a one-mile shelter-in-place order has been issued for individuals near the affected area. He emphasized coordination with local authorities, first responders, and the Department of Transportation in response to the incident, emphasizing that the derailment did not impact commuter rail lines.
Fitzpatrick advised those within the shelter-in-place area to stay indoors, secure pets and animals, close windows and doors, and turn off heating and air conditioning systems until further notice. He urged individuals outside the designated area to avoid the scene, keep roads clear, and allow emergency personnel to respond safely.
