A father is currently evading law enforcement following his conviction for causing the death of his infant in a car accident while under the influence of alcohol.
Emmanuel Sakyi, aged 31, reportedly fled the scene after crashing head-on with another vehicle while driving on the incorrect side of the road in Milton Keynes in December 2022. Tragically, his seven-month-old daughter Emmanuela, who was seated on her mother’s lap in the front passenger seat, sustained severe injuries in the collision and sadly passed away in the hospital.
Sakyi, a resident of Milton Keynes, did not attend his trial at Aylesbury Crown Court where he was facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving. Despite his absence, a unanimous jury found him guilty after just over two and a half hours of deliberation. Consequently, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
During the trial, it was revealed that Sakyi was driving while significantly exceeding the legal alcohol limit and displaying actions well below the standard expected of a responsible driver. Witnesses testified that he drove his vehicle on the wrong side of the road for a considerable distance before crashing into another car.
The prosecution highlighted that Sakyi failed to properly secure his daughter in a car seat, allowing her to sit unrestrained on her mother’s lap with only a seatbelt across her stomach, a situation deemed as highly unsafe.
Furthermore, it was disclosed that despite warnings from an oncoming driver, Sakyi did not attempt to avoid the collision and promptly fled the accident scene once the crash occurred. Authorities later apprehended him outside his residence, but he failed to appear for his trial, prompting Thames Valley Police to seek public assistance in locating him.
Detective Sergeant Ed Crofts emphasized the seriousness of the case, urging anyone with information on Sakyi’s whereabouts to contact the authorities immediately, emphasizing not to approach the individual directly. Sakyi was ultimately convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and sentenced to 15 years in prison, along with an 18-year driving ban.
