A man known for his exceptional growth has passed away at the age of 33 due to complications related to a rare medical condition. Sulemana Abdul Samed, a towering figure measuring 7ft 4in, but suspected to have been even taller before his demise, succumbed to an infection in his leg sores on Monday. Affectionately called Awuche in his native Ghana, he gained widespread recognition, putting his hometown of Gambaga on the map.

Described as generous and kind by his relative, Sulemana Abdul Kudus, many individuals continue to visit his residence seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death. Samed’s life took a dramatic turn in his early twenties when he experienced an abrupt surge in height. Originally employed in a butcher’s shop in Accra with aspirations of attending driving school, his aspirations were shattered when he woke up one day with respiratory difficulties due to a swollen tongue.

As his body continued to grow, his spine curved, prompting him to abandon his dreams of becoming a driver and playing football. Diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder impacting connective tissues, Samed’s condition led to his hospitalization in Tamale, where he eventually passed away from complications arising from infected leg sores. Despite the challenges he faced, his towering stature brought him fame, with even the brother of Ghana’s president offering financial assistance for his medical needs.

Speculation arose regarding Samed’s potential to challenge for the title of the world’s tallest man, with initial measurements suggesting a towering height of 9ft 6in, which was later revised to 7ft 4in by visiting journalists due to equipment limitations. Notably, the current Guinness World Records holder for the tallest living man is Sultan Kosen from Turkey, standing at 8ft 3in, while the tallest person in recorded history was American Robert Wadlow, reaching 8ft 11in before his untimely death at 22 years old.
