Heba Abaid, aged 26, is part of a cohort of Palestinian students aspiring to study in the UK to escape the horrors of genocide. The UK government has committed to aiding exceptional young individuals from Gaza in pursuing their education in the UK, provided they secure a full scholarship or can cover tuition fees.
However, Heba, like many other Palestinian youths, faces financial constraints, currently dwelling in a tent with her family on the former site of their demolished home. Her narrative, reflective of numerous others in the region, prompted several British celebrities to initiate a fundraiser. The objective was to generate funds through an online auction to support outstanding students in fulfilling their academic ambitions in the UK.
Gary Lineker contributed a signed Nagoya Grampus Eight football shirt from his time in Japan, while actor Brian Cox offered a signed memoir and production flyers. Nicola Coughlan, Charlotte Church, Paloma Faith, and 18 other celebrities from various fields collaborated for the Scholarships for Gaza online auction. Heba stands to benefit from a portion of the funds raised, facilitated by the charity Phoenix Space, with the auction running until August 6.

To embark on her Master’s degree in Design Management at Lancaster University in the UK, Heba aims to raise £32,129. With over £3,000 collected through a GoFundMe campaign, she aspires to combine these funds with the proceeds from the celebrity auction to secure her academic journey and a brighter future.
