Former pop star Gary Glitter, who is currently incarcerated, has been questioned by authorities regarding alleged sexual offenses involving a girl under the age of 14. The incidents are said to have occurred during the late 1970s and early 1980s at a residence in Kensington, west London. Glitter, also known as Paul Gadd, was reportedly interrogated in prison following a report made on January 9, 2025.
The 82-year-old singer is believed to be held at HMP Channings Wood in Devon, a category C prison. In 2015, he was sentenced to 16 years for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980, with his release scheduled for 2031.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a man in his 80s was interviewed in July 2025 in connection with the reported offenses. The investigation is ongoing, and support is being provided to the victim by specialized officers. The police emphasized their commitment to listening to and assisting individuals reporting historical sexual crimes, highlighting increased safeguarding efforts and training initiatives that have led to a significant rise in charges related to child sexual exploitation.
Glitter was released from HMP The Verne in February 2023 after serving half of his sentence but was swiftly reincarcerated for breaching his parole conditions by attempting to access illicit online content. Despite his appeal for release being denied by the Parole Board in June of the previous year, he remains in custody.
Glitter’s criminal activities were unveiled during Operation Yewtree, a Metropolitan Police inquiry launched in the aftermath of the Jimmy Savile scandal. He was the inaugural arrest under this operation when apprehended at his residence in the capital in October 2012.
