Fitbit has been a key player in promoting active lifestyles for over 15 years. The latest offering from the Google-owned company is the Fitbit Air, designed to provide an affordable and convenient way to monitor daily fitness levels. Unlike previous Fitbit models, the Fitbit Air does not feature a screen and resembles popular Whoop bands that are worn like stylish wrist accessories.
Although the lack of a screen means sacrificing features like message notifications, heart rate monitoring, and exercise stats display, the Fitbit Air boasts significant advantages. It offers enhanced comfort with a bracelet-style strap, surpassing leading competitors in a recent study conducted by Google.
The Fitbit Air ensures a week-long battery life without the need for frequent removal. Additionally, fast charging capabilities provide a day’s worth of power in just five minutes. The device comes with a novel magnetic charger equipped with bi-directional technology, allowing for effortless recharging without worrying about orientation.
Despite its sleek appearance, the Fitbit Air remains true to its brand by monitoring various health metrics once worn, including sleep patterns, activity levels, exercise routines, and heart rate. It can detect conditions like AFib and alert users to irregular heart rhythms.
Internally, the Fitbit Air features an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor. Data collected by the device is directly transmitted to smartphones, where the Google Health Coach offers a comprehensive overview of the user’s health status.
The Fitbit Air is fully water-resistant up to 50 meters and will be available in four colors: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender. When it hits the market, the Fitbit Air will be priced at £84.99.
