First Lady Melania Trump opted out of accompanying US President Trump on his important trip to China, choosing instead to focus on her responsibilities supporting American families and children within the United States, according to NBC News sources.

Her absence from the President’s delegation during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping has raised questions and left many wondering about her current location.

While Melania did travel with her husband to China in 2017, this time President Trump is accompanied by senior US officials and prominent CEOs.

In the meantime, the First Lady remains in Washington DC to commemorate the 180-day milestone since her husband signed the Fostering the Future Executive Order, a directive that aligns with one of her main initiatives to aid children in state care.

A source close to the trip clarified to the Washington Post that Melania was never intended to join the visit, even before it was rescheduled due to the US-Iran conflict.

“The First Lady’s focus is on American families and children through her domestic initiatives, and she is currently dedicated to these responsibilities,” the source affirmed.

However, she is expected to be present to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, to the White House in September during their reciprocal visit to the US. Notably, Brett Ratner, the director of the documentary “MELANIA,” has joined the US President on the China trip as part of the official delegation, adding an unexpected element to the state visit.

Reportedly, the First Lady was unaware of Ratner’s inclusion on Air Force One to Beijing. Ratner, known for his past work in Hollywood and recent return to the industry with Melania’s documentary, joins a group of business figures accompanying Trump, including Tim Cook and Elon Musk.

Trump’s son Eric and daughter-in-law Lara are also part of the 2026 China trip delegation. Lara recently shared a photo featuring various delegation members, including Natalie Harp, Trump’s executive assistant, who plays a significant role in managing his posts on Truth Social.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Harp is instrumental in curating and publishing Trump’s content on the platform, with a notable flurry of posts recently showcasing strong support for the former president.
