A fatal shooting occurred at a rave in the Aargau canton of northern Switzerland, resulting in one fatality and five injuries early Sunday, as confirmed by local authorities and media sources. The police are actively searching for the shooter, with details on the motives and circumstances of the incident still unclear.
According to cantonal police statements, a 22-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were transported to the hospital. All the victims are Swiss residents, and their identities have not been disclosed in compliance with privacy regulations.
The shooting took place at the Aarau Rave VOL. 7 event at the Schachen horse racing track in Aarau, the canton’s capital, approximately 46 kilometers west of Zurich. Police were notified of the incident around 2:30 a.m., prompting a significant law enforcement response in the area. The fire department secured the vicinity of the venue.
A manhunt is currently in progress, with authorities advising locals to avoid the area. The search efforts also involved police from Freiburg, Germany. Attendees initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks until a warning prompted them to take cover. Following the shooting, all remaining individuals were escorted to a nearby gym by the police.
Authorities have urged anyone with video footage or images related to the shooting to come forward. The Aargau Racing Club, responsible for the venue, expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families, commending the emergency personnel for their swift and professional response.
Swiss DJ Tekibo, who performed at the rave, expressed sorrow over the tragic incident on social media, emphasizing that such violence has no place in the music and party scene. Aarau, a city with a population of 22,300, is situated approximately 30 kilometers south of the German border.
