“Fatal Explosion in Nottinghamshire Building Under Investigation”

An unidentified explosion caused extensive damage to a building in Nottinghamshire, leading to the tragic discovery of a deceased elderly man within the wreckage.

Emergency responders, including police and fire crews, are currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the explosion that occurred on Church Lane in Selston. The explosion sparked a significant fire, requiring the deployment of numerous firefighters on Saturday evening.

As a safety precaution, residents in nearby homes were advised to keep their windows closed due to the smoke emanating from the site. The emergency services were alerted to the situation at 7:18 pm, initiating a swift response.

Despite the prompt efforts of the emergency personnel on-site, the man in his 90s found amidst the debris was pronounced dead at the scene. Surrounding residents were temporarily evacuated as authorities secured the area for investigation.

Following the incident, road closures at the intersections of Church Lane and Station Road, as well as Church Lane and Stoney Lane, were implemented but have since been lifted. A collaborative inquiry by the police and fire departments is ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.

Detective Sergeant Millie Gillett of Nottinghamshire Police expressed condolences to the man’s family and highlighted that there seems to be no immediate threat to public safety, indicating that the incident is isolated. The cooperation of local residents during the emergency response was acknowledged and appreciated.

Group Manager Jonathan Holford from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also extended condolences to the affected individuals and commended the teamwork among emergency responders and the community during the challenging situation.

The investigation into the explosion continues, with authorities focused on determining the circumstances that led to the tragic event.
