Stephen Warnock, a renowned former player for Liverpool and an England football icon, assisted authorities in apprehending a man who had been peeping into the homes of two women for weeks. The 44-year-old ex-defender waited for Andrew Mulhearn after being caught on the women’s Ring doorbell camera multiple times. Warnock, hailing from Ormskirk in Lancashire, monitored the area with his fiancée, the sister of one of the victims, parking nearby during Mulhearn’s anticipated appearances.
Upon realizing he might be discovered, Mulhearn fled when he saw Warnock, who pursued him for about 40 minutes until the police, alerted by a 999 call, managed to arrest him. Mulhearn, a 30-year-old resident of Mossley Hill, Liverpool, received a 12-week suspended prison sentence for two counts of harassment without violence, following his admission to the crimes that spanned several weeks the previous summer, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
Warnock explained that his actions were motivated by personal reasons, emphasizing the importance of protecting young girls from such unsettling experiences. He expressed concern over the lack of police resources to address such incidents promptly, prompting him to take action to aid in the investigation.
Mulhearn’s disturbing behavior began in July 2025 when the victims noticed a mysterious figure appearing at their front door nightly, initially suspecting a potential burglary. However, upon closer scrutiny, they discovered the man peering through their front window at the same time each night.
Despite police advice to contact emergency services if Mulhearn returned, Warnock chose to keep a vigil outside the house, hoping to identify the culprit. His vigilance paid off when he spotted Mulhearn passing by the property, prompting a chase to uncover his whereabouts.
Warnock’s pursuit led to a joint effort with another individual, ultimately resulting in Mulhearn’s apprehension by the police. The culprit initially denied any wrongdoing but later confessed at his court hearing and received a suspended sentence, rehabilitation days, unpaid work hours, and a five-year restraining order.
